Water tariffs in Attica are heading for increases, as Athens’ Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP) has submitted a proposal for across-the-board price adjustments affecting all categories of consumers.
According to the submission filed with the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAAEY), the company is proposing a series of changes starting in 2026, including the doubling of the fixed water supply charge and the introduction of a fixed sewage fee for households. These measures form part of a broader pricing framework extending through to 2029.
At the same time, EYDAP is proposing increases of more than 32% for businesses, the central government and the wider public sector, with the stated aim of distributing financial costs more evenly across consumer categories.
For residential users, the proposal includes a doubling of the monthly fixed water supply fee from 1 to 2 euros, translating into an additional annual cost of 12 euros. In parallel, a monthly fixed sewage charge of 1euros—currently non-existent—would be introduced for the first time and applied uniformly to all household consumers.
Together, the two measures would raise the annual fixed cost for a typical household by 24 euros. The existing consumption brackets for residential water use, however, are expected to remain unchanged.
Exemptions are provided for vulnerable social groups. Beneficiaries of the social tariff under the Emergency Special Tariff, as well as large families and senior citizens over the age of 75 with an annual income of up to 8,000 euros, would be fully exempt from paying both the water supply and sewage fixed charges, which currently amount to 1euro in total.
EYDAP is also proposing steep increases for industrial and professional users, with prices rising by around 32.5% to 32.6% per cubic meter across consumption levels and public-sector tariffs. The company stresses that, once these changes take effect, its aim is to keep water prices stable throughout the first Regulatory Period, through 2029.
