Greece’s natural gas transmission operator, DESFA, has completed its latest annual auctions for LNG unloading slots and regasification capacity at the Revithoussa terminal, with overwhelmingly positive results.
The auctions, covering the 2026–2040 period, were held between October 2025 and January 2026. They drew strong interest from the market, reinforcing the strategic importance of liquefied natural gas in regional energy planning.
Nearly All LNG Slots Booked Through 2040
A total of 413 LNG unloading slots were offered during the process, corresponding to 342.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of LNG. Of these, 409 slots — representing 340.5 TWh — were successfully booked. Participation reached up to five users per year, highlighting sustained and diversified market demand.
The results confirm the continued reliance on long-term capacity bookings as a mechanism for strengthening energy security, improving predictability and ensuring market stability. They also reflect a high level of market confidence in the infrastructure at Revithoussa and underscores Greece’s position as a stable and reliable LNG entry point for neighboring markets.
For 2027, 2028 and 2029, all available cargoes had already been fully booked in previous auction rounds. For 2026 and 2030, the remaining available cargoes were secured during this latest process, leading to full coverage of the offered capacity.
Infrastructure Upgrades Boost Northbound Flows
DESFA’s newer infrastructure projects are also enhancing the country’s role as an energy gateway. These include compression stations in Komotini and Ampelia, along with ongoing investments to upgrade and expand the National Natural Gas Transmission System.
