Greek Ports See Surge in Cruise Traffic in 2025

Greek ports recorded a significant increase in cruise activity in 2025, with cruise ship arrivals rising 11.7% and passenger numbers up 6.2%, according to data from the Hellenic Ports Association (ELIME), based on reports from member ports.

The figures highlight the continued strength of Greece as a top Mediterranean cruise destination.

Cruise Ship Arrivals

In total, Greek ports welcomed 6,129 cruise ships in 2025, compared with 5,490 in 2024, marking an 11.7% increase. This growth underscores the expansion of cruise routes to Greek destinations and the nation’s sustained prominence in the Eastern Mediterranean cruise market.

Passenger Traffic

Passenger throughput also rose, reaching 8,415,713 in 2025, up from 7,927,709 in 2024, a 6.2% increase. ELIME noted that this trend reflects the ongoing preference of international cruise companies and travelers for Greek destinations, which combine rich cultural heritage, strong tourism appeal, and attractive maritime experiences.

Key Cruise Destinations

Cruise traffic continues to concentrate at Greece’s most popular ports:
• Piraeus Port – 863 ships, 1,850,000 passengers
• Mykonos Port – 762 ships, 1,222,748 passengers
• Santorini Port – 728 ships, 1,203,052 passengers
• Corfu Port – 467 ships, 894,179 passengers

Other regional ports also saw notable activity, contributing to a wider geographic distribution of tourism and supporting local economies.

Economic Impact of Cruises

Cruise tourism remains a dynamic sector of Greece’s maritime economy, playing a vital role in:
• Strengthening local and regional economies
• Creating employment opportunities
• Promoting Greece as an international tourist destination

ELIME highlighted that the ongoing increase in cruise traffic underscores the importance of continuously upgrading port infrastructure and services, alongside strong collaboration among ports, local authorities, and tourism stakeholders.
