A significant increase, by 21% compared to 2020, was recorded by Greek exports of the clothing-textile sector during the first five months of 2021 and amounted to 763 million euros, according to today’s announcement of the Association of Knit and Ready-made Garments (SEPEE).
The protagonist in this positive course of the chain was the exports of the primary sector, namely cotton, which recorded an increase of 49%, compared to the corresponding five months last year, and amounted to 257 million euros.
Garment exports increased by 11%, amounting to 333 million. The course of garment exports was, according to SEPEE, impressive in the quarter March-May, as an increase of 70% was recorded, thus overcoming the 30% decrease of the first two months.
In the textile sector, exports also increased by 8% to 173 million euros.
In terms of imports, an increase of 4.9% was recorded. The increase was higher in textile imports by 12%, while clothing imports increased by 2% and reached a value of 730 million euros.
