The embassy of France in Greece and the Athens-based Institut Francais on Wednesday announced the holding of a special event next Tuesday (Sept. 14) dedicated to the memory of composer and cultural icon Mikis Theodorakis, who passed away last week at the age of 96.
The event, to be held at the institute’s main Theo Angelopoulos auditorium, will also be live-streamed via www.ifg.gr .
Held under the auspices of the embassy of France and Amb. Patrick Maisonnave, the special event will be addressed by Maria Farantouri and Nena Venetsasou, two of the best-known female performers of Theodorakis’ works, as well as Giorgos Archimandritis, the author of the book “Mikis Théodorakis par lui-même” (Actes Sud publications) and “Mikis Theodorakis: My Life” (Patakis publications).
As a tribute to the legendary artist, the French delegation in downtown Athens has illuminated the front of the embassy building for the past week with photographs of Theodorakis, a Francophile who studied in Paris and lived for years in France.
