Greek European Parliament deputy (MEP) Eva Kaili on Tuesday was elected as one of the assembly’s 14 vice-presidents.

Kaili, elected with the Movement for Change (KI.NAL) party and part of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats grouping in the Europarliament, received 454 votes. She was fifth out of nine candidates, thereby being elected in the first round.

A third ballot will be held to fill the last two vice-presidencies, one of which is includes leftist Greek MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis, who previously served as a vice-president.

Taking to his official Twitter account, newly elected KI.NAL leader Nikos Androulakis extended his congratulations to Kaili, noting that it was the first time since 2014 that the party has elected a member as a Europarliament VP.
