A desperate rescue effort to free two trapped drivers from the garage of the burning “Euroferry Olympia”, which issued a SOS in the early morning hours of Friday while sailing north of the Ionian Island of Corfu, was successful hours later.
According to Mega channel in Athens, the two rescued individuals are lorry drivers, a Turk and a Bulgarian.
Efforts are continuing for 11 missing passengers, with a specialist unit of Hellenic Coast Guard divers headed to the stricken vessel.
A total of 278 people have been rescued so far.
