Cold front to drop temperatures, snow across Greece over next 24 hours

Snow and unseasonably low temperatures around Greece on Wednesday were a preview to worsening conditions over the next 48 hours with the arrival of the storm front “Filippos”.

Rain and snowfall are forecast to gradually subside as of Wednesday afternoon, while storms are expected to continue for the islands and Crete. while weather conditions will worsen on Thursday.

In the greater Athens area, police have prohibited passenger vehicles from several mountains around the Greek capital.

Heavy snowfall was reported across much of the mountainous mainland, with snow tires required on several major roadways.
