Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived at an informal EU Council meeting in Versailles on Thursday, where he referred to a session held “amid the specter of the biggest war ever witnessed on the European continent since WWII.”

Mitsotakis, whose government has categorically condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and even sent military aid to the Kiev government, first expressed his abhorrence over the bombing of a maternity ward in the port city of Mariupol a day earlier.

Additionally, he called for an immediate ceasefire and for humanitarian corridors to be opened for civilians to flee combat zones.

Finally, he said EU leaders will reconfirm their determination and even take more sanctions against Moscow, in order to get Russia to the negotiation table.
