The trade deficit jumped by 98.7% in the first month of the year, according to Hellenic Statistical Authority – ELSTAT data. Although exports increased by 33.9% in January 2022, imports increased by 57.9%.
In particular, the trade deficit was 2,944.3 million euros ($ 3,298.4 million) compared to 1,481.8 million euros ($ 1,780.9 million) in the same month of 2021, showing a 98.7% increase. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products increased by 910.4 million euros, ie 84.5%, while the corresponding value without petroleum products and ships increased by 903.3 million euros, ie 84.6% compared to in the month of January 2021.
The total value of imports – arrivals in January 2022 amounted to 6,318.4 million euros ($ 7,127.3 million) against 4,002.6 million euros ($ 4,859.9 million) in the same month of 2021, presenting increase, in euros, 57.9%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products increased by 1,320.0 million euros, ie 42.8%, while the corresponding value without petroleum products and ships in January 2022 increased by 1309.3 million euros, ie 42, 6%, compared to the month of January 2021.
The total value of exports – shipments amounted to 3,374.1 million euros ($ 3,828.9 million) against 2,520.8 million euros ($ 3,079.0 million) in the same month of 2021, showing an increase in euros, 33.9%. The corresponding value excluding petroleum products in January 2022 increased by 409.6 million euros, ie 20.4% and the corresponding value without petroleum products and ships in January 2022 increased by 406.0 million euros, ie 20.2%, compared to the month of January 2021.
