The construction works of 135 kilometers of natural gas network to supply at least 3,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers have started in Ioannina. It is a project with a budget of 16.8 million euros (excluding VAT) which is co-financed by the Public Gas Distribution Mananger-DEDA and the Public Investment Program.
Igoumenitsa, Preveza and Arta will then take up the baton, as the start of the works for the construction of 30 kilometers of natural gas distribution network and at least 1,500 consumer connections of all categories is imminent, as announced by DEDA.
The investments that will be made in all four aforementioned cities of the Epirus region will reach a total of 33 million euros.
Innovations
It is noted that the DEDA distribution network development plan in the cities of Epirus has two innovations:
1. It is implemented using the modern technology of land transportation of natural gas in liquid form and its storage in local cryogenic tanks. The complexity and difficulties of implementing this new technology were simplified through the know-how of ITALGAS, one of the most important distribution companies in Europe and a shareholder of DEDA through DEPA Infrastructure, which undertook the Technical Design of the facilities.
2. The pipelines and in general the distribution infrastructures built by DEDA are suitable to distribute biomethane, the ecological and renewable gaseous fuel produced from the residues of the agricultural and livestock sectors which exist in large quantities throughout Epirus. DEDA is already preparing studies for the installation of biomethane units in various parts of Epirus in order to enrich the network with “green” energy. Also, the network is compatible for the distribution of hydrogen mixture in the appropriate proportion.
The CEO of DEDA, Marios Tsakas, noted that the work ends the energy isolation of the Epirus Region through the supply with natural gas, and the studies were completed in a very short time.
