
From November 1, 2023, Greek kiwifruit will be available for export to Brazil, as the road has been opened, following the completion of the bilateral phytosanitary agreement process at the end of the previous season.
Specifically, according to a decree of the General Secretariat of Plant Protection (SDA) – published on 23/10/2023, in the government gazette of the Federal Government of Brazil – Diário de União – of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), the export of Greek kiwifruit is allowed in the country.
The decree in question also determines the phytosanitary requirements for importing kiwifruit (Actinidia Chinensis) from Greece, including the varieties Actinidia deliciosa, Actinidia latifolia variety deliciosa and Actinidia chinensis variety deliciosa.
The necessary documents
At the same time, the necessary accompanying documents required during the import procedure are also determined, which are:
a) Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the National Phytosanitary Protection Organization of Greece, with the following additional statements:
I – “The consignment has been checked and is free from Anarsia lineatella, Phenacoccus aceris, Pseudococcus calceolariae, Stathmopoda auriferella and Thrips fuscipennis” and
II – “The shipment was treated by exposure to cold, at a temperature of 0ºC (zero degrees Celsius), for a minimum period of 14 (fourteen) days, to control Lobesia botrana and Archips podana pests, under official supervision.”
The destinations
So far, according to the data processed by the Incofruit Hellas Association from September 1, 2023 to October 19, 2023, kiwifruit exports amount to 10,381 tons compared to 7,145 tons in the corresponding period of 2022.
Of these quantities, 700 tons went to India compared to 0 tons last year, to Canada 275 tons compared to 114 tons, to the USA 634 tons compared to 175 tons, to Spain 1,842 tons compared to 1,394 tons and to Italy 1,837 tons compared to 1,512 tons.
