The European Commission has released a positive assessment of Greece’s sixth payment request of €2.44 billion under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the core component of NextGenerationEU.
The EC said Greece has completed 32 milestones and 7 targets set out in the Council Implementing Decision for this installment.
The Commission stated the reforms and investments tied to the RRF tranche will result in tangible benefits for citizens and businesses in healthcare, education, public administration, and taxation.
Key measures in the sixth payment request include, among other things, establishing a legal framework to support renewable hydrogen and sustainable biomethane, facilitating the use of prepaid cards for social welfare beneficiaries, and creating a national database of digital health records for doctors and patients.
The preliminary positive assessment forwarded to the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC) follows Greece’s request for the payment on July 18, 2025.
Greece’s recovery and resilience plan comprises a wide range of investment and reform measures, funded with €18.22 billion in grants and €17.73 billion in loans.
With this sixth payment, the total disbursed to Greece under the RRF will reach €23.45 billion, including:
- €3.96 billion in pre-financing received in August 2021
- €159 million under REPowerEU in January 2024.
This amount represents 65% of Greece’s total allocation, with 48% of the plan’s milestones and targets already fulfilled.
