Greek PM Heads to India for AI Impact Summit

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is traveling to New Delhi to participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, taking place on February 18–19. The summit is a major international initiative focused on establishing a global policy framework for artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on measurable social and developmental impact.

The summit aims to shift the international AI discussion from broad declarations to tangible outcomes, practical collaborations, and scalable applications. Mitsotakis’ presence highlights Greece’s active role in shaping this transition, positioning the country as a bridge between Europe and the Global South in the global AI dialogue.

More than 20 heads of state and government, along with representatives from over 60 countries and international organizations, are expected to attend. Leading technology executives will also be present, emphasizing the summit’s combination of policy and innovation.

Mitsotakis will be accompanied by Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning in the Prime Minister’s Office, Yannis Mastrogeorgiou. Their participation is set to increase Greece’s visibility in a sector that will define geopolitical and economic power in the coming decades, while reinforcing the country’s position as a hub for innovation, regulatory development, and social impact.

During the summit, Mitsotakis is scheduled to meet several prominent tech leaders, including:

Michael Kratsios, US Presidential Science and Technology Policy Office
Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind Technologies
Brad Smith, Microsoft Vice President
Mati Staniszewski, CEO of ElevenLabs
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI
Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI
Additionally, on February 19, Mitsotakis will hold a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuing a strategic dialogue initiated during Modi’s official visit to Athens in August 2023 and Mitsotakis’ visit to India in February 2024. This partnership has since strengthened bilateral relations across multiple sectors.

Greece is expanding its presence in India with new consulates in Mumbai and Bangalore. The country aims to serve as Europe’s strategic gateway to the Indo-Pacific and a key hub in the Middle East–India–Europe Corridor (IMEC). Collaboration spans security, defense, trade, investment, science and technology, education, culture, tourism, and agriculture, while the EU–India trade agreement further enhances access for European products and businesses to the Indian market.
