The European Commission on Monday approved an additional €6.1 billion ($7.12 billion) in financial assistance for Ukraine’s defense, bringing the total value of approved procurement plans to €22.1 billion.
The new package will support Ukraine’s purchase of military equipment including air defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars.
The European Union said the latest funding comes on top of €16 billion in procurement plans previously approved for Ukraine. Of that amount, €8.35 billion has already been disbursed.
“As Russia intensifies its attacks, we are stepping up to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its skies. Europe stands with Ukraine and we will deliver what it needs, when it needs it,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.
The additional funding comes as the EU continues to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid Russia’s ongoing attacks.
