The president of the PPA, Mr. Yu Zenggang, spoke about the economic and strategic position of the port of Piraeus, which has turned from a regional port into an important international hub in all areas of activity.
Mr. Yu stated his company’s commitment to implementing large-scale investment plan, and necessary modifications, in full alignment with the Concession Agreement from the Greek State. Part of the investment plan is the expansion of the Cruise Terminal which is of great importance for the port of Piraeus and Greek tourism and the Greek economy as a whole. As he stated a major goal goal is to transform the port of Piraeus into homeport destination on the international cruise map’.
He noted that since 2016, when “Cosco Shipping began to control and operate the port of Piraeus, the company has provided the local community with more than 3,000 direct jobs and over 10,000 jobs in related services, contributing 1.4 billion euros in investments, taxes, duties and social contributions”.
Mr. Yu Zenggang referred to the “company’s vision for a Green Port of Piraeus”, noting that “during the Posidonia international maritime exhibition , the Port received three ISO certifications for Quality, Environment and Energy Management.
At the same time, he spoke about the message he received from this year’s Posidonia, “that Greece remains the most energetic center of the global shipping industry and a growth factor. Awareness of today’s key issues, such as the energy transition, sustainable development and environmental sustainability, is particularly high with a number of related initiatives underway.”
