Primary monthly pensions in Greece to increase by up to 7.75% as of Jan. 1

A joint ministerial decision was signed on Wednesday raising monthly social security payments, on primary pensions, by between 7 and 7.75 percent, beginning on Jan. 1, 2023.

The social security increases had been repeatedly announced over the recent period, including by PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself.

The increase is expected to benefit more than 1.72 million beneficiaries.

Additionally, more than 912,000 pensioners recently saw graeter monthly payments with the abolition of the so-called “solidarity tax”, imposed by the previous SYRIZA government prior to 2019.

Another 1.206 million pensioners were recipients of a 250-euro extraordinary end-of-the-year bonus.
