Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis welcomed visiting US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to his official Maximos Mansion office on Monday afternoon, noting that the top American diplomat has arrived “at a time of great challenges.”
“It’s very clear we must convey a message that every form of revisionism, every change of borders through violence, cannot be accepted by the international community of democratic states,” Mitsotakis said immediately after their meeting.
Among others, he said Greece was quickly emerging as an energy hub in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February, while at the same time ending its dependence on Russian natural gas.
The Greek leader also again expressed his sadness over the devastation in southeast Turkey, and said Athens will continue to support its neighbor during its time of need.
In turn, Blinken cited the importance of alliances created to support Ukraine, while praising Greece’s in this framework.
Referring to the launch of the 4th round of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue, set for Tuesday, Blinken referred to a joint commitment of democracy as a link between Greece and the United States.
