US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Athens shortly after 17:30 local time (15.30 GMT) on Monday for a two-day official visit and talks with Greek leadership.

The top US diplomat arrived from Ankara, Turkey, where, among others, he was received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He previously toured quake-devastated areas in southeast Turkey, accompanied by his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Blinken will be received by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the afternoon, with talks expected to focus on defense cooperation and energy security.

On Tuesday, the US Secretary of State will hold with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias, with the latter subsequently commencing the fourth US-Greece Strategic Dialogue.

A joint press briefing will follow.

Blinken will also meet on Tuesday morning with former prime minister and main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras at a central Athens hotel.
