Karpathos is among the 14 alternative destinations from around the world that have the charm of being different and unexplored and have been “overlooked” or “underestimated” by mass tourism, according to British newspaper Daily Mail and the timeout.com website.
The purpose of the article, as the two popular media say, is to inspire travelers about quality destinations that stand out for local culture, gastronomy and experiences they offer and are considered “hidden gemstones”.
According to the list, visitors in Karpathos enjoy virgin beaches, away from crowds and standardization of other Greek islands, and reference is made to the unique Olympus.
The list also includes Mongolia, Lake Bakalar in Mexico, Ecuador’s Quenca, Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzergovina, Puerto Rico, Gipsland in Australia, Plymouth, Vermont, The Sao Tome and Princepe islands, Bray, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
The raw beauty of Karpathos fascinates travelers with special interests.
A strong interest from journalists, bloggers and other experts in unexplored destinations, such as Karpathos, with authentic experiences without hordes of mass tourists was discerned at meetings in the context of the largest international tourism exhibition, ITB 2023.
“It is no coincidence that our island was recently one of the 25 proposed destinations for 2023, in the annual established list of National Geographic,” said Manolis Paradios, Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Karpathos.
