he Greek Food Authority (EFET) has issued a recall of a food product labeled as “Macedonian Pickled Pepper” under the brand name “Almopia Foods.”
A sample of the product, packaged in a 670g sealed glass jar, batch number Lot 02531923 with a best-before date of October 30, 2026, was found to be non-compliant and unsafe.
The recall follows testing conducted as part of the food watchdog’s 2025 food additives and flavorings monitoring program.
Tests carried out by the Chemistry Department of Kavala, in northern Greece, under the General State Chemical Laboratory, revealed that the product contained sulfur dioxide in concentrations exceeding 10 mg/kg. However, the presence of this allergenic preservative was not properly labeled on the packaging. According to food safety regulations, such allergens must be clearly indicated using a distinct font to alert consumers.
The Department of Trade has demanded the immediate recall of the entire batch, and inspections are currently underway. EFET urges consumers who have purchased the affected product and have a sensitivity to sulfites not to consume it.
