Greece’s Unemployment Falls to 8.2% in November 2025

Greece’s unemployment rate stood at 8.2% in November 2025, according to new figures released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), marking a clear improvement in the labor market as the country moved toward the end of the year.

The November reading was lower than the revised 9.7% recorded in November 2024 and also down from 8.6% in October 2025, continuing a steady downward trend in joblessness. Unemployment remains one of the most closely watched economic indicators in Greece, particularly given the country’s prolonged struggle with high joblessness following the debt crisis of the previous decade.

Unemployment down sharply from last year

The total number of unemployed people fell to 395,436 in November. This represents a decrease of 62,458 individuals compared with the same month a year earlier, which signifies a drop of 13.6%. On a monthly basis, the number of unemployed declined by 13,900 people, or 3.4%, compared with October.

Employment continues to rise

Employment levels also increased, reinforcing the positive picture. ELSTAT’s labor force survey showed that 4,406,148 people were employed in November 2025. This was an increase of 121,939 workers compared with November 2024, a year-over-year rise of 2.8%.

Compared with October 2025, employment grew by 38,600 people, or 0.9%.

Gender and age disparities narrow

Unemployment declined for both women and men. Among women, the jobless rate fell to 10.6% in November 2025, down from 12.3% a year earlier. For men, unemployment dropped to 6.3%, from 7.5% in November 2024.

Significant improvements were also recorded across age groups. Unemployment among young people aged 15 to 24 declined to 16.6%, compared with 21.2% a year earlier. Among those aged 25 to 74, the rate fell to 7.7%, from 9% in November 2024.

Fewer people outside the labor force

The number of people under the age of 75 who were not part of the labor force, meaning they were neither employed nor actively seeking work, totaled 2,937,797 in November 2025.

This figure was down by 86,848 people compared with November 2024, a decrease of 2.9%. On a monthly basis, it declined by 26,982 people, or 0.9%, compared with October.
