Inflation in Greece climbed sharply in April, with steep rises in energy, fuel and basic food prices placing even heavier pressure on household budgets and the overall cost of living.
Inflation recorded another sharp increase in April, reaching 5.4% compared to 3.9% in March, as rising costs in fuel, energy and basic food products placed even greater strain on households. According to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), the steepest price increases were recorded in heating oil, transport fuels and essential food items such as beef, fruit and vegetables.
The cost-of-living crisis continues to squeeze consumers, with inflation making another significant jump within a single month. Energy and fuel prices remain at particularly high levels, while increases are also being recorded in staple food products, significantly driving up living costs.
Indicative of the situation is the fact that heating oil prices rose by 53.2% compared to last year, while sharp increases were also seen in meat, coffee, fruit and vegetables.
