Greek tax inspectors and financial crimes police reported numerous instances of violations during checks on at least four islands, mainly establishments not issuing legal receipts to customers, thereby depriving the state of VAT remittances and potential taxes on profits.
Other violations were for unregistered employees, meaning social security contribution evasion.
The inspections took place on the popular holiday islands of Paros, Ios, Skiathos and the central port city of Volos, with 15 establishments fined and ordered shut for 48 hours.
One establishment was fined 3,000 euros and ordered closed for a week on a violation related to Covid-19 restrictions.
