The Independent Electricity Transmission Operator (IPTO) announced the successful completion of the first part of an open tender for the modernization of telecommunications infrastructure (IP / MPLS technology) to meet its operational energy management needs, totaling € 16 million. OTE is to be the contractor of the project. The supply of the relevant equipment and services will be carried out by NOKIA.

IPTO, as stated in its announcement, is developing a modern multi-service backbone network for the communication needs of the components of the Energy Transmission System. The project has a completion horizon of six years and is part of the Operator’s strategy for modernization and digitalization of its infrastructure in order to ensure a modern, functional and durable electricity system.

The Deputy General Manager of Financial Services of IPTO, Mr. Iason Roussopoulos, stated: “The modernization of the critical telecommunications infrastructure and services of IPTO is part of the new strategy of the Manager to be transformed into a technology company utilizing its infrastructure and know-how. The companies OTE and NOKIA are among the most established players in their industry and we are particularly satisfied with the alliance we have achieved in order for our project to be implemented with technical perfection and timeliness.”

Mr. Lykourgos Antonopoulos, ICT Director of OTE Group, stated: “Today technology offers possibilities that until yesterday were unimaginable.
