The latest opinion poll results in Greece give ruling New Democracy (ND) party a 8.5-percentage-point lead over main opposition SYRIZA, a trend that has continued over at least the last five years, including the two years when the former was in the opposition.
Nevertheless, in the first year-and-a-half of its rule, ND recorded double-digit leads over SYRIZA.
The monthly Pulse poll was presented on the prime-time SKAI newscast.
Based on an extrapolation of valid responses, center-right ND is given 33.5 percent of respondents’ preferences, to 25 percent for leftist SYRIZA. A resurgent PASOK-KINAL party is again in double-digit “territory”, pooling 14 percent, followed by 5.5 percent for the Communist Party (KKE).
Asked about general elections, 46 percent of respondents preferred they be held in 2023, when the current Mitsotakis government’s mandate expires, while 43 percent said this year.
