A new wildfire was reported near the far west Attica prefecture of Megara – west of Athens proper – on Wednesday, following a devastating front that scorched much of the eastern and southeastern slopes of Mt. Penteli, in eastern Attica, the previous 24 hours.
According to the fire brigade, the wildfire was blazing near residences in area late afternoon Wednesday, burning pine, brushland and crops.
Area residents were instructed to evacuate via the 112-emergency number.
Firefighting forces dispatched to the scene included 95 firefighters and 34 vehicles, along with 13 water-dropping aircraft.
