Athens ranked in the best-value-city breaks, according to the UK Post Office Travel Money annual “City Costs Barometer”.
The Greek capital ranked 5th in the category of “Best Value City Breaks” with a barometer total cost of £289.40, with Vilnius in Lithuania taking the top spot as the most affordable with £236.51.
Athens ranked 4th regarding accommodation costs, the single biggest cost for most city break travelers. As the UK Post Office barometer revealed it costs a person on average £140 to stay in Athens, with Lille in France being the most affordable for tourists at £131.
Athens was the second most affordable city break destination for eating costs, as it ranked second, costing UK holidaymakers £49.95 for a three-course meal for two with a bottle of house wine.
Every year, Post Office Travel Money compares the costs of short breaks in cities across Europe for UK holidaymakers – overall and for specific items like accommodation, meals, and cultural attractions.
The annual City Costs Barometer informs Brits about which European cities offer the best value or are the most expensive. In 2024, the Post Office Travel Money compared 12 typical tourist costs in 37 cities.
