
Construction activity in Greece saw a notable upward trend during the first four months of 2024, driven primarily by an increase in the issuance of permits and the overall area, with a secondary rise in volume, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
From Jan. to April 2024, the Total Construction Activity (encompassing both private and public sectors) registered a 41.5% rise in the number of building permits, a 38.4% increase in the area covered, and a 26.2% growth in volume compared to the same period in 2023.
Focusing on Private Construction Activity during this period, there was a 41.8% increase in building permits nationwide, a 40.2% rise in the area, and a 26.8% expansion in volume compared to Jan. to April 2023.
In April alone, Total Construction Activity across Greece, based on issued permits, reached 2,823 permits, covering an area of 621,905 m² and a volume of 2,700,893 m³. This marks a 40.1% increase in permits, a 38.6% rise in area, and a 29.9% growth in volume compared to April 2023.
Over the past twelve months, from May 2023 to April 2024, Total Construction Activity (both private and public) based on issued permits amounted to 30,320 permits, with an area of 6,953,774 m² and a volume of 31,375,645 m³. This represents a 17.0% increase in permits, an 18.8% rise in area, and an 18.8% increase in volume compared to the same period from May 2022 to April 2023.
