Greek Delegation Visits Chevron Headquarters to Promote Hydrocarbon Investment

The Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, along with Deputy Minister Nikos Tsafos and the CEO of the Hellenic Hydrocarbon and Energy Resources Management Company, Aristophanes Stefatos, visited Chevron’s headquarters in Houston on Thursday.

The visit was part of the Greek government’s broader effort to promote investment in the country’s hydrocarbon sector. The delegation was received by Clay Neff, President of Chevron International Exploration and Production, and Liz Schwarze, Vice President of Global Exploration.

“We are pleased to be at the Chevron offices, following the interest the company expressed in hydrocarbon exploration in Greece,” said Papastavrou upon arrival. “My presence here with a high-ranking delegation demonstrates our commitment and determination to explore Greece’s natural resources for the benefit of all Greek citizens. And it underlines our intention to proceed with the international tender process as quickly as possible.”

Following the meeting, the delegation was given a tour of Chevron’s security center, which monitors the company’s international drilling operations in real time.

As part of their visit to Houston, the Greek delegation is also scheduled to meet today with representatives from ExxonMobil and Cheniere Energy.

In parallel, Greece has launched an international tender for four offshore hydrocarbon blocks located in the Ionian Sea and south of Crete. The tender has been published in the country’s Official Gazette and is expected to appear soon in the Official Journal of the European Union, at which point a 90-day period for submission of bids will begin.

The four blocks include “Southern Peloponnese,” “Southern Crete I,” and “Southern Crete II,” for which Chevron has expressed interest, and “A2,” which has been requested by HELLENiQ ENERGY.
