Passenger Traffic ‘Soars’ in Greek Airports

Passenger traffic across all airports in Greece “soared” during the first eight months of 2025, setting a new record before the end of the year, according to data from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).

In particular, passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the HCAA, including, among other airports, those in Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Ioannina, Chios, etc, increased by 6.7% in January–August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

Specifically, total passenger traffic (arrivals and departures on domestic and international routes) at these 24 airports reached 8,924,516 passengers, compared to 8,361,342 in 2024.

Passenger traffic for January–August 2025 across all Greek airports operating commercial flights (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 Fraport Greece, and Athens International Airport) rose by 4.6%.

In total, passenger traffic in this period reached 57,475,778 compared to 54,946,379 in the same period of 2024.

As for aircraft movements (domestic and international arrivals and departures) across the 39 airports during January–August 2025, there was a 3.5% increase compared to 2024. Specifically, 432,917 flights were recorded, up from 418,160 in 2024.
