Accompanied by his wife, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the dinner hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on the occasion of the High-Level Week of the 80th United Nations General Assembly.
The Mitsotakis couple’s presence at the official dinner was part of the Greek delegation’s program of multilateral contacts in New York, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
It should be recalled that yesterday, the prime minister addressed the UN General Assembly, where, among other points, he called on Turkey to withdraw its threats of war against Greece, reiterated Greece’s unwavering support for Ukraine, and stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire.
No meeting scheduled between Mitsotakis and Trump
Despite the Greek government’s strong desire for such a meeting, no bilateral talks between Mitsotakis and Trump have been scheduled so far.
While the Greek government would like to play up the PM’s presence at the official dinner, possibly presenting it as a “meeting” with U.S. President Donald Trump to address domestic criticism by his political opponents about the fact that the two leaders have yet to arrange an official meeting, the reality is that the dinner is an event attended by multiple world leaders—who also posed for photos with Trump and his wife, Melania.
