A wildfire erupted just after 5 p.m. (15.00 GMT) at the Drafi site along the slopes of Mt. Penteli, which overlooks Athens from the north. The specific site has been scorched by summer wildfires on more than one occasion in the past.
A major fire-fighting force has been dispatched, including 16 water-dropping aircraft, and nearly 100 fire-fighters. The latter include a 28-man contingent from Romania.
Several high-end municipalities are located below or around the specific site.
