The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Piraeus (EBEP) and the Regional Chamber of Commerce of Attica (PESA), Vassilis Korkidis, noted that consumers are cutting back on spending and that one in two have exhibited caution in the first week of summer sales.

As he pointed out in a statement, retail trade is on hold, with only the white goods-appliances sector seeming to be attracting consumer interest, and this because of the subsidy under the “Recycle – Swap appliance” program.

Mr. Korkidis attributed the restrained behavior of consumers to increased electricity bills and rising fuel prices which have been creating uncertainty ahead of next winter.
