One of Greece’s most iconic island beaches, Navagio on the Ionian Island of Zakynthos, will remain closed this season for bathers and visitors due to concerns over rockslides.
A provision recently published in the government gazette extends the closure until Oct. 31, 2023. The ban also includes boat tours in the specific beach bay.
Similar to last year, police and coast guard personnel will patrol the Navagio Beach, which in Greek means shipwreck, due to the presence of the hull of a past shipwrecked vessel. The beach is inaccessible except by sea.
