The Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE) has identified Australia and the United States as the most promising long-haul markets for Greek tourism in the next 12 months.
According to INSETE’s latest study, travelers from these two countries exhibit a stronger interest in visiting Greece compared to other major long-haul markets like China and India.
In its analysis of Greece’s appeal as a tourist destination, INSETE focused on four key markets for inbound tourism: the U.S., China, India, and Australia.
According to the findings, Greece ranks 10th in travel preferences for Australians, 13th for Americans, 32nd for Chinese travelers, and 36th for the Indian market.
Compared to 2023, Greece dropped seven spots in the Chinese market and 11 in the Indian market but gained one position in the U.S. It is worth noting, however, that in the American market, the difference in preference between Greece and the countries ranking just above it is as little as one percentage point.
When looking at the most preferred destinations in each market, geographical proximity plays a key role. American travelers favor Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas, with Italy as their top European choice.
Chinese tourists are most inclined to visit Singapore, Japan, and Thailand, while France is their highest-ranking European destination in ninth place.
Indian travelers also prioritize nearby countries, with Singapore, the U.S., and Thailand leading their list, while Switzerland is their top choice in Europe, ranking sixth.
For Australians, Japan, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom are the most favored destinations, with Italy being the fourth most preferred.
Among Greece’s Mediterranean competitors, including Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Croatia, and Turkey, the country ranks third in popularity for Australians, fourth for both Americans and Chinese, and fifth for the Indian market.
