A recent study by an institute affiliated with the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), the national umbrella trade union in the country, states that roughly 305,000 job spots have been lost in Greece over the past 15 years – a period that encompasses the punishing economic implosion and three bailouts (2010-2018).

The study by the labor group notes that most of the job spots were lost in the secondary production sector, with the primary sector shedding the second largest number. The job spots lost were mostly for unskilled workers and farm hands.

The GSEE Labor Institute study also notes a feature of the Greek labor market that is already well-documented: namely, the lack of job spots in “dynamic” hi-tech sectors, compared with most of Greece’s European Union (EU) partners and in comparison with other sectors of the local economy.
