“There are excellent prospects for the export of Greek products and services to the Canadian market ,” as noted in the “Business Guide to Canada” compiled by the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Greek Embassy in Ottawa.
The sectors with the most promising prospects for Greek companies are the sectors of food and green energy as well as technology. Other sectors of particular interest for Greek products, as mentioned in the guide published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for exports, are cosmetics – parapharmaceuticals, as well as the construction materials sector, which is of interest mainly to Greek exporters of marble and aluminum.
Especially for food, it is noted that, thanks to the temporary implementation of the CETA Agreement, trade has been facilitated and there is room for further strengthening of exports of Greek products to the Canadian market. It would be helpful to organize a business mission in the food industry. However, restrictions due to a pandemic, which has acted as a deterrent to business operations, must be taken into account.
Regarding green energy and technology, it is stated that “the green energy and technology sector deserves attention, for which Canadian investments in our country are showing interest. However, there has been intense interest from the Greek side to attract investment in the RES sector (“Webinar Investment Opportunities in the RES Sector in Greece” June 2020) ”
The technology sector, it is noted, has benefited significantly from the pandemic and at the same time from the strengthening of Canada’s institutional framework which favors the great development of innovative technological products and new business ideas. Greek companies in the industry could, through proper networking with Canadian companies, secure partnerships and funding.
Actions for investment and business cooperation
The proposals for strengthening extroversion actions are:
– Participation in events, conferences and exhibitions related to the food, wine and beverage sector to collect data to support Greek exports.
– Participation of the ISD office in workshops and conferences organized in Greece by chambers, exporters’ associations and other bodies, on the subject of Greek-Canadian trade and economic relations.
– Organization of B2B business meetings, in case of a commercial mission from Greece. The ISD office intends to make every effort to successfully crown a possible business mission, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or other bodies.
