The Thessaloniki Port Authority (OLTh S.A.) and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) have signed a cooperation pact, both sides announced this week, one aimed at boosting international trade and their respective commercial activities through the promotion of Eurasia sea transport via the northern Greece port and the supremely important Egyptian passageway.

Exchange of know-how and professional experience between OLTh and Port Said is cited in the pact, as well as joint trade and education initiatives, all aimed at boosting trade and passenger traffic between Greece and Egypt.

One specific goal cited is the creation of a permanent shipping line for perishable goods and bulk cargo between the two countries, as well as the further development of the cruise ship sector.

The agreement was signed during an remote ceremony that was attended, among others, by the relevant Greek minister, Yannis Plakiotakis, OLTh’s leadership, the chairman of SCZone, Yehia Zaki, as well as the general director of Port Said, Capt. Aly Assem M. Ibrahim.
