Registered unemployment in Greece totaled nearly 837,000 people in September 2023, down by 5.9 percent compared with the same month last year and down by 6.8 percent from the previous month, August 2023, the state-run Public Employment Service (DYPA) announced on Friday.

Specifically, 488,714 people are considered as long-term unemployed (jobless for 12 or more months). Men accounted for 33.3 percent of the figure.

The 30-44 age group is the largest bloc of registered unemployed (274,299 or 32.8 percent of the total).

The number of people receiving jobless benefits was 181,080 in September 2023.
