The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses Greece’s satisfaction with yesterday’s statement by the EU High Representative, Josep Borel, regarding the illegal Turkish announcements about Varosha.

Specifically, it states:

“Greece welcomes yesterday’s statement by the High Representative Borrell regarding the illegal Turkish announcements about Varosha, which it condemns.

The reference in the last paragraph where the EU Foreign Ministers will consider actions at European level in their next meeting, if Turkey does not comply with the relevant Security Council decisions, is particularly restrained.

It is noted that the declaration of Mr Borrell was issued on behalf of the European Union and is the result of negotiations between the 27, in which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through continuous contacts with other Member States and European institutions, played a catalytic role in its adoption.
