The Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, announced five measures to ensure the energy supply of the country in case of disruption of the country’s supply, after the completion of the extraordinary meeting of the Energy Crisis Management Group.
According to Costas Skrekas, the supply of our country continues normally without disturbances. Energy producers are constantly in touch with suppliers to secure additional quantities of gas if needed.
The minister described five “reserves” so that Greece does not face a problem of adequacy even in extreme scenarios:
1. The liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks are full, while yesterday a new ship arrived in Revythousa with a cargo of 108,000 cubic meters.
2. The TAP pipeline is ready to accept increased quantities of natural gas.
3. Lignite power plants have 30 days of lignite reserves available
4. The five power plants that consume natural gas are on standby so that if necessary they can run on oil.
5. The water reserves for the hydroelectric power stations are at a satisfactory level.
Prices
The minister also sees new pressure on energy prices, according to his statements: “The Russian invasion of Ukraine is fueling the energy crisis with prices at inconceivable levels,” he said, reiterating the government’s decision to continue supporting Greek society with subsidies for electricity and gas bills.
He stressed the importance of the initiative of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to present and finally adopt by European leaders his proposal for the creation of a single mechanism in the EU. that will support vulnerable households and businesses.
