The government will be represented at the funeral of the former King Constantine by its vice-president, Panagiotis Pikrammenos, and the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, the Maximos Palace said in a statement on Friday morning.
It is recalled that initially the government had announced that it would be represented only by Culture Minister Lisa Mendoni. “Her representation at the funeral is essentially being upgraded.”
This was done, among other things, because the minister runs the Tatoi promotion project and is involved in the negotiations – preparations for the burial of the former in Tatoi.
Former King Constantine: Will he lie in state? – The officials who will attend the funeral
In any case, competent sources said that even though it was centrally decided to bury Constantine as a private person, a minimum protocol continues to be activated, given that the former was a public figure, that officials are expected to arrive from abroad, etc.
There are no other pending matters
In the meantime, since the ritual regarding the burial of the former and the funereal liturgy and procession in the Metropolis has been resolved in consultation between the government and the family, there are practically no other pending matters on the part of the government.
This means, according to competent sources, that it has been left to family-church consultation as to whether the body will remain for a few hours in the Metropolis, so that anyone who wants to pay their respects.
The government generally did not want a three-day homage in state that would resemble a funeral with head of state honors.
At the same time, the relevant ministries are under pressure to ensure the necessary security measures both in Tatoi and in the center of Athens, next Monday.
Why Pikramenos will also be present
The decision for the Deputy Prime Minister to attend was also influenced by the… list of arrivals from abroad. According to information, there is currently the image that the following intend to attend:
King Philip of Spain
King of Sweden
King and Queen of Holland
Queen of Denmark
Grand Duke Henry of Luxembourg
Crown Prince Haakon of Norway
In addition, within the day it is expected to become known who will arrive from Great Britain.
