No less than seven legal challenges were filed at the Council of State (Cos), Greece’s highest administrative court, against a master plan submitted by the Cosco-managed Piraeus Port Authority (PPA), the biggest and busiest port facility in the country and the eastern Mediterranean.

The legal challenges, essentially recourses, were submitted by a relevant deadline, which was March 27.

Two legal challenges were filed the municipality of Drapetsona-Keratsini and the municipality of Perama, respectively. Both municipal entities border with PPA. Another legal challenge was filed by an association representing ship-repair businesses, one more by the Piraeus Bar Association, and finally, a trio of legal challenges by groups of private citizens and residents that have opposed such investments by the port authoritty in the wider Piraeus area.

The recourses by the municipalities also contain suits by third parties, such as residents on the nearby island of Salamina and archaeologists protesting ship-repair and building activities in registered archaeological sites.
