Reports: Athens to ask for replacement of several previously approved EU Recovery Fund projects

The Greek side has reportedly requested the exclusion of previously proposed projects, totaling 800 million euros, included in the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Fund.

According to media reports this week in Athens, the specific projects are now considered as failing to meet conditions that existed when the “Greece 2.0” plan was submitted to the EU Commission for approval. Among others, the Greek government believes the specific projects cannot be completed with submitted timetables.

In a bid to avoid losing funds, Athens is reportedly asking for permission to “axe” projects such as the 5G corridors along a national highway network, several anti-flooding works urban water supply.

Conversely, funds will be ostensibly shifted to extra funding for a household appliance and residential window/door frame replacement program, along with RES energy storage units.
