Tourism continues at a steady pace even during the winter months, especially across Europe, including Greece. According to a report by the European Travel Commission (ETC), Greece ranks seventh, with a 5% share, tied with the United Kingdom and Portugal.
The shift of Europeans toward safe destinations is no longer just a summer phenomenon. A trend that first became evident last winter and strengthened over the summer now appears to be extending dynamically into the winter season as well.
Greece consistently holds a spot among the top 10 countries Europeans plan to travel to in the coming months, up to March 2026, which is considered the low-demand season.
Spain leads with 12%, followed by Italy and France with 8%, and Germany with 6%. The top 10 is completed by Austria and Turkey (each with 4%) and Croatia (3%).
In individual markets, Greece ranks among the top five destinations for Austrian travelers with a 5% share, while Germany takes the lead with 13%.
A similar trend is observed in the UK market, where Greece accounts for 5%, and Spain leads with 17%.
Among French travelers, Greece performs even better — ranking fourth with a 7% share, its highest position among all markets surveyed. Spain again leads with 13%.
In the Polish market, Greece also ranks fourth with 6%, while Spain remains the most popular destination at 11%.
