The weighted average interest rate on new deposits in Greece remained almost unchanged, at 0.12 in January 2023, while the corresponding rate on new loans increased to 5.36 percent, while the spread between new deposits and loans increased to 5.24 percentage points, the Bank of Greece (BoG) announced on Friday.
Greece’s central bank, in its monthly report, said the weighted average interest rate on outstanding amounts of deposits remained almost unchanged, at 0.11 percent, while the corresponding rate on loans increased to 5.33 percent. The interest rate spread between outstanding amounts of deposits and loans increased to 5.22 percentage points.
Specifically, the weighted average interest rate on new deposits remained almost unchanged at 0.12 percent.
The average interest rate on overnight deposits placed by households remained unchanged at 0.03 percent, while the corresponding rate on deposits by non-financial corporations stood at 0.08 percent compared with 0.05 percent in the previous month.
The weighted average interest rate on new loans to households and non-financial corporations increased by 30 basis points to 5.36 percent.
Specifically, the average interest rate on consumer loans without a defined maturity (a category that includes credit cards, revolving loans and overdrafts) increased by 5 basis points to 14.73 percent.
The average interest rate on consumer loans with a defined maturity, with a variable rate, increased by 4 basis points to 11.36 percent. The average interest rate on mortgages with a variable interest rate increased by 9 basis points, to 3.90 percent.
