The final resolution of the standing request for the free passage of commercial ships from the Salamina Naval Station at night with the lifting of the ban, announced the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association (HSSA) .
As it is emphasized, “today the Association’s long-standing request was satisfied after five years of efforts and interventions. An issue that, as long as it lasted, created serious problems and unnecessary delays for all commercial ships as well as for cargo, that of the prohibition of merchant ships passing through the navigable channel during the night.”
In particular, “after repeated written and verbal interventions to the respective Chiefs of the Hellenic Navy, the new Chief, Vice-Admiral Ioannis Drymoussis, immediately realized the existing problem and issued NAVTEX 532/2023, by which it is now allowed the passage of commercial ships at night, with the same procedures that are followed for the passage of ships during the day and with notification of the passage two hours before the requested time of passage. At the same time, our Union was informed in writing that the relevant revision/amendment of the current Advertisement (5/2023) is also being promoted.
The President of HSSA, Charalambos Simantonis, expressed his satisfaction with this development, which solves a very serious problem of delay of all ships and thanks Chief P.N, hoping that the way it worked will be an example for solving obvious issues that create obstacles in the shipping industry.
