The wide range of investments in the lignite mining areas implemented by PPC, was presented by the president and CEO of the company, Giorgos Stassis, speaking today at a conference on sustainability organized by Politico.
“We will not leave the lignite areas but we will change the profile of investments in renewable sources, photovoltaics and waste management, biomass. For the first time, we have a very detailed plan, which also takes care of the residents of these areas”, underlined Mr. Stassis.
He referred, among other things, to the possibility of participation of the residents in the investments of the company in RES, in the retirement programs of employees in retirement units but also in the upgrading of the skills of the younger inhabitants. The head of PPC expressed the belief that the transition plan will bring stability and prosperity to the lignite mining areas.
Referring to energy developments, he stressed that as the penetration of renewable sources increases, we will need more hybrid investments, which will combine production with energy storage.
