Academic Konstantinos Zopounidis was awarded the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies – CIHEAM for his scientific and teaching work in Decision Sciences and Management during a modest ceremony in Paris on May 9th.
Konstantinos Zopounidis is Professor of Financial Management and Business Research at the Technical University of Crete (Greece), Distinguished Research Professor at Audencia Business School (France) and Academician of both the UK Royal Academy of Doctorates and the Royal Academy of Economics and Finance of Spain.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of the following international journals: International Journal of Corporate Finance and Accounting (IGI Global), International Journal of Multicriteria Decision Making (Inderscience), International Journal of Financial Engineering and Risk Management (Inderscience) and Operational Research: An International Journal (Springer).
He is also an Associate Editor in: New Mathematics and Natural Computation (World Scientific), Optimization Letters (Springer), International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance (Inderscience), International Journal of Data Analysis Techniques and Strategies (Inderscience), and the European Journal of Operational Research (Elsevier). He is also the President, since the beginning of 2012, of the Company of Financial Engineering and Banking (FEBS).
Professor Zopounidis is Book Series Editor: Multicriteria Decision Making and Cooperative Management (Springer).
In recognition of his scientific work, he has received numerous awards from international research organizations such as the Gold Medal and the Diploma of Social and Human Sciences from the MOISIL International Foundation and the Gold Medal and Diploma in Business Research from Hellenic Business Research. He received the Edgeworth-Pareto Award from the International Society of Multicriteria Decision Making and the Outstanding Contribution to Management Science and Decision Making Award from the Audencia Business School. He has been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Western Macedonia and the title of Honorary Professor from the University of West Attica and the Hellenic Mediterranean University.
He has edited and authored more than 100 books in international publishing houses and more than 500 research papers in scientific journals, edited volumes, conference proceedings and encyclopedias in the fields of finance, accounting, business research and management science. It has 18,589 reports, with h-index 73in Google Scholar and Scopus h-index 42.
Contribution to CIHEAM-MAICh
Professor Konstantinos Zopounidis started his collaboration with CIHEAM-MAICh in 1987. He contributed greatly to the development of scientific cooperation between the Technical University of Crete and CIHEAM-MAICh, especially with the Department of Economics and Business Administration, where he taught the subjects of Finance. and Advanced Optimization Techniques.
During the collaboration, he has supervised 39 postgraduate dissertations of CIHEAM-MAICh students. The excellent quality of the research under his supervision has led to numerous publications.
In addition to the above, Professor Konstantinos Zopounidis has evaluated 24 other student dissertations of the Department of Economics and Business Administration. He has collaborated with CIHEAM-MAICh in many international research projects and has contributed greatly to the establishment of the Tourism Observatory of Western Crete that monitors tourism in Crete for more than 10 years.

The close cooperation of CIHEAM-MAICh with Professor Konstantinos Zopounidis, whose scientific scope is internationally recognized, also contributed to the status of recognition of CIHEAM-MAICh master’s degrees by the Greek government, as stated in Greek law.
He has also organized many international conferences at CIHEAM-MAICh.
